WISeKey selected by the Government of Seychelles to provide eGovernment services to citizens

Victoria (Seychelles), Geneva (Switzerland) – November 12, 2015 – WISeKey, the leading Swiss cybersecurity and digital identities solutions company for eGoverment, has been selected by the Government of Seychelles as a partner to supply technology and expertise on Public Key Infrastructures, Digital Signatures and its usage in electronic transactions.
Public Key Infrastructures (PKI) and all the derived applications for authentication, digital signatures and encryption are indisputably the most secure technologies to ensure the protection of personal identities and documents.
Transactions protected with digital signatures substitutes the traditional manuscript signatures on paper in a more effective way and provides the same legal validity, while reduces dramatically the costs for the governments and citizens, universalizing the access to citizen services. WISeKey is a key player in the PKI arena, and offers a unique combination of know-how and geo-political neutrality. Based in Switzerland, WISeKey can ensure the independency of its trust services, allowing its customers to issue digital identities that are recognized worldwide.
The Government of Seychelles has developed several initiatives for digital inclusion and the adoption of new technologies in electronic identity. At present it is in the process of implementing digital signatures in the country as per the provisions of its “Electronic Transaction Act,” which regulates all the aspects related to digital certificates and certification authorities accredited to work as part of the new “National Trust Model.”  The Government of Seychelles has been praised internationally for all these efforts; in 2012 it was recognized by the United Nations with the top most award in Africa in Information Communications Technology for eGovernment, and since then it’s been considered a benchmark in the region.
Benjamin Choppy, the Principal Secretary of the Department of Information and Communication Technology in Seychelles said, “The Government of Seychelles is driving key projects for eGovernment that will benefit our citizens and the companies in the country, facilitating the widespread use of the internet for the electronic transactions. We have entrusted WISeKey the development of our National Certification Authority and its support in the adoption of next generation PKI technologies.”
“WISeKey has a clear commitment in the development of eGovernment services and the universalization of the electronic identity to secure the digital life of people using the internet. We are proud of having the Government of Seychelles as one of our key customers in this area,” said Carlos Moreira, Founder and CEO of WISeKey SA.
