Geneva, Switzerland, 10/09/2009—WISeKey SA, the ten-year-old bespoke digital security solutions firm, was named a 2009 New Champion among global growth companies by the World Economic Forum, the foundation famous for its gatherings of world-class leaders and thinkers, at its annual “Summer Davos” in Dalian, China, which opens today.

The citation of WISEKEY among pioneer companies of the future cites WISeKey as a company that represents the best practices in the economy now. The World Economic Forum selects Global Growth Companies (GGCs) on the basis of their revenues, growth rate (minimum turnover of $100 million to $5 billion depending on industry), internationalization, and leadership.

“Global growth companies [like WISeKey] play an extremely critical role,” Jeremy Jurgens, the senior director of Global Growth Companies at the World Economic Forum, said in a release. “These companies represent the best example of creating new jobs, new technologies, and new business models.”

Carlos Moreira, WISeKey’s founder, chairman, and CEO, said in Dalian that he was humbled and honored by the WEF’s recognition of WISeKey for the third straight year.

“Making innovation profitable is tough in any economic environment,” said Moreira, a Swiss. “WISeKey is becoming more and more adept at helping smart organizations stay smart by protecting their intellectual property and facilities. The recognition of the World Economic Forum suggests our company is on the right track and has a bright future.”

WISeKey has been at the forefront of developing discrete yet effective solutions for protection against hackers, spies, counterfeiters, and trespassers to global corporations for ten years, with clients as diverse as Hublot, the luxury watchmaker, IKEA, and Alinghi, the America’s Cup sail racing champion.

WISeKey’s product line is built around three platforms. They include the e-Key+, a portable device that helps executives and consumers carry around and access sensitive data on any computer with little fear of leaving any trace behind, WISeAuthentic, an ID authenticating system for purchasers and users of everything from luxury watches to online and offline fan clubs and communities; WISeGovernment, a service that helps governments and business digitally track transactions like voting and purchases and eliminate waste.

It’s a timely business. The security software market has done well in the global technology spending slump. According to Gartner, the research firm, the security software market increased 19 percent last year. The growth in demand for good digital security corresponds with a terrifying growth in malware, spam, counterfeiting, and hacking that threatens everyone from end-users to public and private data and communications networks and facilities.

“For governments and corporations looking to help their organizations and their communities effectively walk the fine line between communications freedom, efficiencies, and security, we can help,” said Moreira, who founded WISeKey after a 15-year career as a security director at the United Nations.

Over 1,300 industry, government and thought leaders are in Dalian, People’s Republic of China, to debate and define the course needed to relaunch growth during this persistent global recession. The Annual Meeting of New Champions 2009, which runs from 10-12 September, has its theme, “Summer Davos in Asia: Relaunching Growth”. The meeting will focus on addressing global economic recovery linked with sustainable development.
