Geneva 2 August 2009 - WISekey announced that the World Economic Forum (WEF) has selected it as a 2009 New Champion. WISekey is of the companies from around the globe to receive this prestigious honor as nominated by leading technology experts from the academia, media, venture capital, and corporate technology communities. WISekey has been invited to participate along with fellow 2009 New Champions at the WEF's annual meeting of the New Champions that will be held in Dalian, People’s Republic of China 10-12 September 2009. This is the third consecutive year WISekey was selected by the WEF for the Annual Meeting of the New Champions.
This year the meeting focus the reviving of economic growth which remains the priority for policy-makers and business leaders in 2009. While government stimulus programmes are critical in the near term, entrepreneurship, innovation and technology will drive a transformational recovery for the long term.
This recovery will be directed by a new generation of leaders – the New Champions – and the World Economic Forum is bringing them together at the “Summer Davos”. In addition, China will be a significant driver in bringing the world economy out of its present recession and into recovery. The Meeting in Dalian, People’s Republic of China, will bring together over 1,000 industry, government and thought leaders to debate and define the course needed to relaunch growth.
The Annual Meeting of the New Champions provides a unique platform for those seeking new opportunities to come together to shape and define an agenda of growth with fresh ideas, innovative business models and new technologies, regardless of prevailing macroeconomic conditions.
At the forefront of this next wave of growth will be the Forum’s Community of Global Growth Companies, a new breed of high-growth enterprises that are by definition global in outlook. A survey of CEOs from these companies, conducted jointly with the Harvard Business Review, revealed that they are focusing more attention overseas than on their domestic market.
“This third consecutive nomination of WISekey by the WEF rewards our commitment to engage with the most dynamic projects, innovations and technologies that are transforming the business landscape. Joining again this WEF community in Dalian will allow us to share our vision with a selected group of mayors and governors, technology pioneers, CEOs, scientists and policy-makers from countries with outstanding growth potential” said Carlos Moreira Founder and CEO of WISekey.
The World Economic Forum’s Community of Global Growth Companies (GGC) was formed in 2007 to engage dynamic high-growth companies with the potential to be tomorrow’s industry leaders and to become a driving force of economic and social change. As of July 2009, more than 200 companies from over 50 countries had been admitted to the GGC Community.
