Carlos Moreira, CEO


Carlos Moreira was during 15 years a UN expert on IT , eSecurity and Telecommunications, working as expert for ILO, UN, UNCTAD, ITC/WTO, World Bank, UNDP, ESCAP. Internet Pioneer; Since 1999 Founder, Chairman and CEO of WISeKey SA. Founder and Founder and Secretary-General International Organization Secure Electronic Transactions-OISTE.org Swiss Foundation. Founding Member of the "Comité de Pilotage Project E-Voting" of the Geneva Government, Switzerland. - Founding Member of the WorldEtrust.org MoU with the International Telecommunication Union.

Founder of the Geneva Security Forum SA, Member Global Clinton Initiative since 2007, Founding Member World Economic Forum Global Growth Companies. Juan Avellan, VP Public Sector and Deputy CEO


Mr. Avellan obtained his specialization in the field of information technology and law through PhD level research on the global evolution on the laws of electronic signatures at the world renowned Information Technology Law Unit at the Queen Mary College of the University of London. Since joining WISeKey in the year 2000, Mr. Avellan has worked on a number of areas as head of legal affairs and as a member of the management that have been key to the evolution of the company. Such areas cover WISeKey’s unique trust model, strategy, corporate affairs, product development, project implementation (in the banking, government, health, digital media and other sectors), and the execution of several high profile projects for governments and in the private sector. Mr. Avellan has widely represented the company in seminars, conferences, and high level meetings including task forces and working groups that include UNCITRAL and the G8 Cyber-security working group. His academic work includes several publications in international and specialized journals as well as forming part of the core research team working for the European Commission on the electronic signature and electronic commerce Directives.

Dourgam Kummer, COO/CFO


Mr. Kummer became Member of the Board of Directors in 2003 and joined WISeKey SA in 2005 as CFO. Mr. Kummer held several leading positions in the Structure and Corporate finance in international companies and financial institutions, especially for André & Cie SA where he also held General Management positions in their former Soviets Union and Austria representation offices. He graduated with mention in Company Management and Finance at “l’école de Cadre” in 1988 in Lausanne and obtained a degree on Structure Finance in 1998 and in Strategic Finance in 2006 at IMD. He is also a member of the IMD alumni since 1999 and member of the HEC alumni since 2001.

Kevin Blackman, VP Product Management, Solutions & Services

Mr. Blackman leads WISeKey technology research and development activities. As CTO he is focused on leading the group that researches, develops and designs next-generation hardware and software tech­nologies for delivering leading platforms and products to customers worldwide. Prior to joining WISeKey, he was project manager of a gov­ernment Science, Technology and Innovation Park project. During his career he has par­ticipated in multipartite research work for securing high worth transactions, in conjunc­tion with representatives of other States in ASPAC, and North America; and as a team member in several national projects. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, with ISSAP (Architecture) and ISSMP (Management) credentials, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad W.I.

Timothy D. Bloechl, Senior Vice President, Global Public Sector WISeKey

Tim is WISeKey’s senior executive, chief strategist, business owner and spokesperson for Public Sector markets and initiatives operating from the Geneva, Switzerland corporate headquarters (www.wisekey.com).  He is responsible for business execution for several public sectors including government, healthcare, education, military, justice, and security services.

Prior to coming to WISeKey, Tim was Managing Director for Worldwide Public Safety & National Security at Microsoft. He was Microsoft's first senior executive for Public Safety and National Security markets and initiatives globally and led efforts resulting in almost doubling the annual revenue during his 5-1/2 year tenure to over $1.5B.  Before joining Microsoft in 2005 from the Pentagon, Tim served as the first Director for the International Information Assurance (IA) Program, and Deputy Director for IA Operations, for the United States Department of Defense (DoD). He led international military cyber security outreach, policy and program development, and was the department's representative for interagency, international and operational cyber security coordination. He also served as the DoD co-chair for the National Cyber Response Coordination Group under the U.S. National Response Plan. Prior to this assignment, from July 1999 to December 2002, Tim was a Senior Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton, providing international affairs, foreign disclosure, intelligence and military operational consulting support to the Joint Task Force-Computer Network Operations (JTF-CNO) in Arlington, VA.

Tim served a 20-year military intelligence career in the U.S. Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. A West Point graduate, Tim saw combat duty in Panama and the 1st Gulf War, led and participated in Cold War intelligence operations while based in West Berlin, and joined the ranks of U.S. Generals Eisenhower and Petraeus as the top graduate in his 1992 U.S. Army Command and General Staff College class.  Additionally, he was the first intelligence officer in the school’s history designated a Master Tactician.  His final military assignment was Director, J2 Plans, for United States Central Command.  He coordinated intelligence planning support to 1998 military force deployments reinforcing UN sanctions against Iraq (Operation DESERT THUNDER); a four-day bombing campaign against Iraq in December of that year (Operation DESERT FOX); and August 20, 1998 cruise missile attacks against terrorist camps and facilities in Afghanistan and Sudan responding to terrorist attacks against U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. His 22 awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star.  He holds the Master of Science for Strategic Intelligence degree from the U.S. Defense Intelligence College and the Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree from the U.S. Army School for Advanced Military Studies.

Tim serves on the Board of Directors for Global Impact (www.charity.org) a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the world’s most vulnerable people.  Tim also serves on the Board of Directors for Global Reach (www.global-reach.org) focused on influencing change, fostering innovative partnerships, and encouraging integration between government and the public and private sectors to increase resources available to those in need. Tim also serves on the Board of Officers for the U.S. Military Academy Class of 1979 and is the Historian for his class.

Gary Shainberg – Chief Digital & Innovation Officer

Gary Shainberg in the newly established role of Chief Digital & Innovation Officer to lead the eSecurity company into new global markets. Gary joins WISeKey after serving as Vice President, Global Technology & Innovation Support at BT. Since 1997, Gary was involved in the design, development, and sale of many of BT’s IP-based services.

Gary is passionate about the future of technology and applied innovation. He has spoken at many events around the world and is quoted extensively in Start-up Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle. In 2006, Gary was appointed to the Israel Britain Business Council to promote trade between the two countries. Previous to BT, Gary ran one of the UK’s earliest ISPs, his own business.

Gary will lead WISeKey’s innovation of services in existing markets, and use his experience to develop new opportunities in the Service Provider and Telco sectors.

Daniel Ybarra, VP Branding & Strategic Projects


Mr. Ybarra assumed his duties as Director of Corporate Communica­tions since September 2000. His expertise comprises, among others, brand marketing, targeted PR and general communications. He is re­sponsible for the worldwide strategy leadership for the World Internet Security brand and in charge of the global brand management for WISeKey. He joined WISeKey in 2000; some of his achievements are the organisation of WiseWord 2000, Telecom 2003, WSIS 2003 and 2005. He began his career in the United Nations. In 1986 joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is also a co-founder of the Abanico Foundation; an organization focused on creativity and specialized in the creation of multidisciplinary and intercultural exchange projects. Furthermore, he is actively and pro-bono involved with major initiatives on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development, such as ACT (Advertising Community Together).

Carlos Moreno, VP Business Development Digital Brand Protection


Mr. Moreno has more than 18 years experience in Sales Engineering, Sales Management and Business Development. He has acquired extensive experience throughout his career by working in strategic projects for both national and multinational companies in the financial and industrial sectors. Along his career, he gathered strong duties in people management, sales coaching, market analysis, establishment and implementation of account plans. He contributed in designing adequate solutions & architectures, taking into consideration needs and budgets. He addressed several projects related to infrastructures, Data, Applications, security, and Identity Management. His negotiation skills on high level instances for complex selling processes related to new technologies permitted Mr. Moreno to achieve excellent sales performance and customer satisfaction. His vision and creativity have contributed to the evolution of the products, as well as the progression of his team and colleagues. His role in WISeKey further commercial relationship with strategic customers also includes responsibility for market analysis and go-to-market strategies.

Gianfrancesco Pasquali, VP Business Development Trust Services 


After taking a university degree at EPFL (Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne) in mechanics, followed by several years with Brown Boveri Sulzer Turbomachines in Winterthur, Mr. Pasquali started working with IBM, where he acquired a lot of experience in IT and in particularly in sales and marketing.  Managing the relationships with large Swiss-Romandie companies, he handled their installation projects and the setting up of their IT centers.  Subsequently, Mr. Pasquali created his own business of IT services in Swiss-Romandie, which has given him a lot of experience in company management.

Philippe Collot, VP, Head of Group Corporate Finance

Mr. Collot joined on October 1st to lead the Corporate Finance activities, working closely with Mr. Moreira and COO Dourgam Kummer in strengthening WISeKey’s capital base with institutional/strategic investors and managing WISeKey’s financial relationships, at a time when WISeKey is facing exponential development.  Mr. Collot has 29 years of wide-ranging international experience in senior management in capital markets and asset management businesses and in cross-border, multi-cultural, multi-jurisdictional environments, acquired through the different marketing and sales positions held with prominent global financial institutions in London, Paris and Geneva, New York and San Francisco. He graduated cum laude in 1982 with a Master in Economics and Social Sciences from Notre-Dame de la Paix University (today part of the Louvain School of Management).

Peter Ward, Finance Director

Mr. Ward is a Chartered Management Accountant with significant international experience in the IT, FMCG, Retail/Distribution, Medical Equipment and Plastics industries, having worked in companies such as ITT, General Electric and Iomega, both in Field & H.Q. locations. He has operated for many years at Executive Staff (Board) level in International, multi-cultural environments. He has in depth experience in Change Management, Process Improvement, Business Integration & Restructuring as well as extensive knowledge of International Tax, Statutory and US GAAP reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. He has a B.A. (Hons) degree in Business Administration from Wolverhampton University, U.K.

Cristina Valls-Taberner Muls

Cristina Valls-Taberner Muls is an entrepreneur with more than 10 years of senior operations and chief executive experience working with financial and technology companies and has one of the best networks in the world. She has worked with brands such as Mercedez-Benz, Jaguar and Banco Santander and created her own luxury brand, Chris&Cris, which has 30 corners already at department stores such as EL Corte Ingles in Spain. As CEO and president of Chris&cris, her leadership capabilities have guided the company through several phases of growth.

Mario Garnero, Chairman of the board

Chairman Brasilinvest Group (Brazil), Entrepreneur Mario Garnero, 69, has a Law Degree from the Catholic University of São Paulo where, as a student, he presided over the “Centro Acadêmico 22 de Agosto” (the University’s Law Students’ Association). Mario Garnero is Chairman of the Board of the Brasilinvest Group, a business organization established in 1975 as a private business agency operating along the lines of a classic “banque d’affaires” or merchant bank. The establishment of the Brasilinvest Group, which has already attracted investments in the range of US$ 2 billion to Brazil, gathered partners from 16 different countries who are still minority shareholders. In addition, Mario Garnero is President of Jurisul – the Interamerican Institute for Juridical Studies on Mercosur and President of the United Nations Association-Brazil.
